Donald MacLeans Farewell to Oban and the Power of 8/16

Today, we're going to talk about the power of 8/16. So, what does that mean? Well, if you’re familiar with fractions, you know that 8/16 simplifies to 1/2. Half of 8 is 4, and half of that is 2 — which leads us to 2/4 time, the standard time signature for many bagpipe...

    Hi Gary,
My goal is to get better at playing better rhythm. I see so many people ask for music of difficult tunes on another website that they provide written notes as many claim they have difficulty reading music How could they actually play correct rhythm if they need this? I have watched your videos and understand the timing of notes, however putting into practice of picking a tune and being able to break it down to the beats like you do is still a problem. I believe I need to be able to identify the beats better instead of guessing and use a metronome to get better plying in time.
I was wondering if you could do a series based on the different time signatures of a simple tune to follow along the breakdown of the beats and then play with a metronome.

      Hey Brian,

That’s a great idea!! I’ll do a series on Rhythm for “Playing the Bagpipe”. If you have a tune the meantime that you need some help with, why don’t you give me a call?

      Gary
